As toddlers develop mobility, curiosity, self-esteem, and social skills, our Toddler Program fosters exploration in a safe and nurturing environment. The second year of a child’s life is full of discovering, learning, growing and developing. We aspire for every child to maximize their learning potential at each developmental stage, providing them more opportunities to advance at their pace with our transitional toddler classrooms. At about one year they become more mobile, and are eager to discover their world. Also at that time, they begin to realize things don’t disappear just because they are out of sight. As this skill increases and refines (at about 18 months) children can search for something that is hidden out of sight. After 18 months, toddlers become much more mobile; learning to run, jump and climb. They also begin remembering things, events, and put these experiences into groups or categories. At this age we see children using objects in play to represent other things and getting involved in dramatic play. And of course, the explosion of vocabulary begins!
Crèche’s philosophy demonstrates that all children, especially toddlers, learn best through hands-on experiences. Piaget’s theory on Cognitive Development states that toddlers cannot predict reactions; therefore they must constantly experiment and learn through trial and error. Consequently, each day at Crèche is filled with fun, different activities that excite and develop toddlers thinking and imaginative skills. Thus all while our teachers encourage them, providing the comfort and confidence to speak those first few important words, as well as make their first friends.
