Kindergarten is an exciting step for children and parents alike. At Crèche, much of what children do and learn in our younger classrooms lead up to it. But it is within our PreKindergaten Program, that kindergarten readiness becomes even more important. In this year, children will focus on kindergarten prep, so they will have the tools necessary to move forward towards elementary school. Providing learning areas in which children plan and select their activities also helps facilitate integrated curriculum, children’s social growth, and maturation during this stage that interact with their experiences to produce changes in gross and fine-motor development. Children in our PreKindergarten program make great strides in cognitive development and social skills. This growth affects not only their academic work and other areas of intellectual functioning but also their language and communication abilities, independence, and moral reasoning.
Our PreKindergarten teachers hold degrees in elementary education, and have previously taught formalized kindergarten. While forming close relationships with each child, our PreKindergarten Program teachers plan lessons to deepen each child’s understanding of basic academic concepts and skills, through exploration, investigation and play. While we increase the focus on math, science, language, reading, and social studies, we’ll make sure it’s presented with a big dose of fun! In following the Kansas Early Learning Standards for development, our teachers recognize that children need to enter Kindergarten with all the social and pre-academic skills and dispositions necessary to succeed in school and life. We provide an environment where children can challenge themselves and enjoy the thrill of discovery as they look forward to elementary school.
