Ms. Makayla is originally from Colony, a small town in southeast Kansas. She moved to Manhattan in 2018 to attend Kansas State University and graduated in December 2021 with a Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Her coursework included Childhood Development, Early Childhood Education, Infant Development, Helping Children through Adversity and Stress, Teaching Strategies to Enhance Transitions, and Nonverbal Communication—each of which helped shape her approach to early childhood education.
In her free time, Ms. Makayla enjoys reading, spending time outdoors, and being with her dog. Having grown up with several younger siblings and cousins, she developed a lifelong passion for working with children. She spent two years as a Program Leader for Kindergarten and 1st grade at the Boys & Girls Club before joining the Crèche team in January 2020. Since then, she has served as an Assistant Teacher in the infant classroom.
Ms. Makayla is passionate about teaching, supporting, and guiding infants as they reach key developmental milestones in their first year. She values the opportunity to be a part of each child's growth and looks forward to building strong connections with families.
"I love getting to watch these little ones learn and grow each day. The smiles on their face when they learn a new skill is beyond comparison. Having the opportunity to build connections with the children and their families is incredibly rewarding."
