When people hear the phrase parent–teacher conferences, they often picture school-aged children, report cards, and academic goals. But parent–teacher conferences are just as valuable during infancy.
Infant conferences are about partnership, trust, and truly understanding your child as a whole person. They give families and teachers time to connect, reflect, and talk intentionally about how your infant is growing and what comes next.
Infants may not be working on letters or numbers, but they are learning constantly. During the first year of life, babies are building foundational skills that shape everything that follows; attachment, communication, movement, and emotional regulation.
Crèche conferences give families and Lead Teachers dedicated time to:
Share observations about your child’s development
Celebrate milestones, both big and small
Talk through routines, preferences, and ask questions
Align care between home and school
Discuss next steps in development and learning
These conversations help us ensure each infant receives care that is intentional, responsive, and individualized.
Infant conferences are not about grades or expectations. Instead, they focus on the everyday experiences that help your child feel safe, confident, and supported.
During conferences, our Lead Teachers often discuss:
Social-emotional development: How your infant builds relationships, seeks comfort, and engages with caregivers and peers
Communication: Early sounds, gestures, eye contact, and emerging language
Physical development: Rolling, sitting, crawling, standing, and fine motor growth
Daily routines: Feeding, sleeping, diapering, and transitions throughout the day
Personality and temperament: What brings your baby comfort, joy, or frustration
Teachers also share photos and classroom observations to give families a clear picture of what their child’s days look like at Crèche.
At Crèche, our observations and conversations are guided by the Kansas Early Learning Standards. These standards help us understand child development in a holistic way and ensure we are supporting growth across all areas.
Rather than “checking boxes,” the standards give us a shared language to talk about where your child is developmentally and how we can continue to support their learning in meaningful, age-appropriate ways.
Infant conferences are also a time to look ahead. As children grow, we begin having thoughtful conversations about next steps and eventual transitions to the next classroom.
Families can expect to hear about:
Skills your child is developing that prepare them for the next stage
How we support transitions thoughtfully and at each child’s pace
What to expect as your child moves closer to the next classroom
One of the most valuable parts of infant conferences is that they are a two-way conversation. Families know their children best, and our Lead Teachers value the insight parents bring.
Families are encouraged to share:
Changes happening at home
New milestones they’re noticing
Questions or concerns
Hopes or goals for their child
For many families, especially those experiencing their first year of childcare, infant conferences provide reassurance. Knowing your baby is known, understood, and cared for by their Lead Teacher makes a meaningful difference.
These early conversations build trust and lay the foundation for a strong partnership that continues as your child grows at Crèche.
