5 Signs Your Child May Be Ready to Potty Train

By: Crèche Day School
Potty training doesn’t have to be a total guessing game. While every child is unique, there are a few common signs that suggest it might be time to ditch the diapers. If your child is showing several of these, you're probably closer than you think!
1. Staying Dry for Longer Periods
If diapers stay dry for at least two hours at a time, it’s a sign that your child is gaining better bladder control.
2. Showing Interest in the Toilet
When children watch others use the bathroom or ask to flush, sit on the toilet, or try big-kid underwear, they’re signaling curiosity and readiness.
3. Discomfort with Dirty Diapers
If your child tells you they need a diaper change or tries to take off a soiled diaper, they’re starting to prefer being clean and dry.
4. Can Handle Simple Tasks
Pulling pants up and down, washing hands, or sitting still for a few moments—these small physical skills support the big potty-training routine.
5. Ability to Communicate
Whether through words, gestures, or expressions, a child who can let you know they need to use the bathroom is ready to begin training.
Recognizing these signs is a great first step toward a smoother potty training journey. Trust your child’s pace, keep the experience positive, and don’t worry if there are a few bumps along the way. With patience and encouragement, your little one will be out of diapers and onto the next big milestone in no time!
